With nearly two decades of specialising in grazing land management in the Kimberley and Pilbara and a strong interest in soils, vegetation, and livestock, Matt works directly with pastoralists across WA to establish and reassess photo monitoring sites, evaluate land condition, estimate carrying capacities, and identify plant species and pasture types. Now working independently after many years with the Department of Agriculture and Food in Kununurra, Matt continues to support the pastoral industry through hands-on, practical work. He has been involved in efforts to better understand spinifex pastures—one of northern Australia’s most extensive and least understood vegetation types—and in 2024 delivered MLA EDGE Grazing Fundamentals workshops in Kununurra and Derby. Matt is based in Kununurra and is an active member of the Kimberley Pilbara Cattlemen’s Association.
